Sashi, The Scared LIttle Sheltie

Written by Linda Greiner, illustrated by Morgan Spicer

Mom's Choice Award Sashi, the Scared Little Sheltie just received the Mom’s Choice Gold Award for Children’s Picture Books (category Children's Picture Books; subcategory Pets). This is the true story of a wonderful herding dog who loses her home because she herds (chases) everything. Her owners do not understand this and do not train her, deciding instead to leave her at a shelter.

Sashi, The Scared Little Sheltie
This happens to so many dogs who lose their homes for behavior issues. The book tells Sashi’s story in a gentle way, emphasizing training and responsible pet ownership. There is an information page for the adult reader about rescue in general and shelties in particular.
Linda Greiner fell in love with Shelties when doing research on what type of dog to get for her sixteenth birthday. Many years later she decided to adopt instead of buying from a breeder and contacted the Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of New Jersey. Sashi was her first experience with a severely traumatized dog. With love and patience, positive reinforcement training, and the Rescue's support, they were able to overcome Sashi's problem behaviors.

"In this latest adventure, Sashi Adopts a Brother, the spunky little Sheltie assists her new family as they foster for Shetland Sheepdog Rescue, looking after other Shelties until they find “forever homes”.

Following on the heels of her first Sashi story, Linda gives us a moving account of Sheltie rescue from completely different perspective. Linda started fostering for SSPSNJ in 2003. Each dog has had a tale to tell. She plans to create a series about Sashi and the rescues they have known and loved.
