NORRIE IS COURTESY POSTED FOR NORTHERN VIRGINIA SHELTIE RESCUE. PLEASE CONTACT THAT GROUP FOR MORE INFORMATION AND TO USE THEIR APPLICATION FORM. www.NVSR.org

Norrie came into rescue from an owner who could no longer afford to keep her. She's a Sheltie and blue heeler mix, based on temperament and all those cute spots on her legs. Norrie is super-friendly to humans, very smart, with excellent focus. That makes her easy to train, which she loves. She will play fetch "till your arm falls off" and needs long walks and hikes. Because of her focus, which is a useful trait of herding dogs, and because she's still an adolescent, she needs consistent, positive training in manners, tricks, and activities like nose work to keep her mind and body occupied. Norrie is reactive to other animals, including dogs, cats, or other pets. She needs to be an only pet. In time, she may be able to accept another dog larger than she is, but for the foreseeable future, she should be an only pet. Her love of humans makes up for that!

Norrie will mature into a very devoted companion for a dog-savvy adopter. She must have a physically fenced yard large enough for a good long game of fetch, along with a quiet neighborhood or rural environment. She needs loving adult companionship, but no children because she may play roughly. Norrie is up to date on vaccines and tests and has been spayed. She is used to relaxing in her crate and is quiet when she travels, also crated. Norrie loves to go places. She also loves being groomed, and "thanks" her humans with a huge doggie smile. This handsome girl is a diamond in the rough, just needing loving attention and the right environment for her to shine.

* We do not permit adoptions of shelties as gifts. If you would like to give one as a gift you can contact us for advice on how to handle the situation.
Please note that we do NOT adopt to homes with children under the age of 10. Herding dogs, especially shelties, tend to chase whatever/whoever is running & they often will nip at the back of legs in their attempt to gather everyone into a neat, manageable area.
If you cannot adopt but would like to make a donation or to sponsor one of our forever fosters, seniors or special needs dogs, please email Aneita.
