*5 foot fence is a requirement to adopt Aoki*
Aoki… the perfect dog… almost
Meet Aoki, a seven year old sable and white Sheltie. She is on the small side at about 15lbs but she is big in personality. Aoki has had three litters of puppies, but has managed to keep her girlish figure. She has since been spayed and is up-to-date with her shots. Aoki loves to play with her toys and her doggy housemates. Even at her age she gets a case of the zoomies now and then. Aoki is crate trained and housebroken. She is happy to be on your lap for some snuggle time. She can be shy with new people at first but warms up to most people quickly. Aoki walks well on a leash and will look to you for direction. She does have a strong herding instinct and will bark and pull on the leash when she sees animals or people. Aoki has low thyroid so she will be on medicine for the rest of her life and will need periodic blood work done to test her thyroid levels. So she is not perfect, but in her foster mom’s eyes, she is as close to perfect as a dog can be.
If you are interested in Aoki please go the the Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of NJ website and fill out an Adoption Application.
* We do not permit adoptions of shelties as gifts. If you would like to give one as a gift you can contact us for advice on how to handle the situation.
Please note that we do NOT adopt to homes with children under the age of 10. Herding dogs, especially shelties, tend to chase whatever/whoever is running & they often will nip at the back of legs in their attempt to gather everyone into a neat, manageable area.
If you cannot adopt but would like to make a donation or to sponsor one of our forever fosters, seniors or special needs dogs, please email Aneita.
